Best Racing of 2024 so far at US 131

Our trip to US 131 in Martin, MI for the Summit Racing Mid-West Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service LLC was a huge success! This new Pat Musi powerplant has the Black Mamba ready to go head to head with anyone that dares to show up at the Smack Down 2024, especially Steve King and the Pilot Racing team.

With just two passes on this new motor, we knew we had a contender when we loaded the car to come north. Looking at the weather forecast, we knew we had a good chance to set the car up for success. During testing on Friday, the car went a 3.6908, our second quickest pass of the year! We returned later that day for Q1 and shook the tires, but still managed a 3.742. By Q2, the weather had aligned for the best possible opportunity to land at the top of the field. Samuel Peterson and Jimmy Bradshaw had the track prepped for the best round of Qualifying this season! When Keith let go of the button, the car rocketed off the line, laying down a 0.915 60’, 2.243 at the 330’ and a 3.6331 ET for our Quickest Pass of the MWDRS Season! That pass netted us a #3 Qualifier Spot.

For Round One we raced our friend Ed Thornton in the Turbo Camaro tuned by Shane T. We put him in the trailer, but only because our pass (4.07) wasn’t as bad as his 4.66. Our ET may have been slower, but Keith’s Reaction Time was a Personal Best in his MWDRS career at a 0.007! It was a Round Win and we’ll take it.

Round Two, we paired with Jim Widener for a great race. Nitrous on Nitrous crime is not a way we like our violence but it makes for great racing in front of the fans. With huge purges from both cars and both of us leaving close to each other, the fans got a show until about 200 feet out when we began to pull on him, finishing with our second best run in Eliminations of 3.673 to his 4.305.

Round Three we were up against long-time friend and competitor Aaron Wells, who was on a tear all day after swapping engines between Q3 and E1! We ran our Second Quickest Pass of the weekend to Aaron’s Quickest Pass ever. His 3.616 was a stack of Personal Bests all the way down. Our 3.672 was a huge success, and our Best Pass in Eliminations this season!

Another big win from the weekend were the Reaction Times, with Keith’s best being a .007 and the worst a 0.034.

The team missed having Misty, Kilee and Braylee at the race. They stayed home and held down the fort while we raced. We look forward to them being at the Smack Down with us, with Misty holding everything together and Keith and the girls racing.

And for the Steve King and Pilot Racing Call-Out for Smack Down, he better get ready for a beating. With $500 on the line for each increment, he better have the money ready. In case you’ve missed it, he has wagered $500 on Reaction Time, $500 on 60’, $500 on 330’, $500 on 660’, $500 on Top MPH and $500 on the Win Light. That orange C7 Corvette is going to look great behind the Black Mamba.

We’ll see everyone at Flying H Drag Strip on Sept 19-21 for the Largest Pro Mod Race Payout in History! Do not miss this race! Make sure to come by the pit and say Hi and show your support for the Black Mamba and have Keith sign your shirt, hat, Hero Card.
