Haney Ready for MWPMS World Finals at Throwdown in T-Town

After debuting his brand-new, nitrous-breathing "Black Mamba" 2019 Camaro when the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) visited Memphis last month, Keith Haney is hoping for even better results this weekend (Oct. 11-12), at the 2019 MWPMS World Finals during the Throwdown in T-Town at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park.

"We had a tough track to deal with in Memphis, which wasn't the ideal situation to get the car dialed in the way it needs to be," said Haney, who also owns and promotes the all-eighth-mile MWPMS. "The track was pretty hard to hook up for nearly everyone and with a car that had never even seen competition before, well, it just made it impossible to get good results.

"But I know the track manager, Jimmy Boles, and the rest of our guys in Tulsa will be working hard on giving us all a great racing surface," added Haney, who co-owns the Tulsa facility with fellow MWPMS competitor Todd Martin.
In fact, after both lost in the opening round of eliminations in Memphis, Haney and Martin met in the final round of the unique MWPMS Slammers class for Pro Mod non-qualifiers and first-round runners up, with Martin taking the win.

"Yeah, at least we salvaged something by getting to the Slammers final. And the car drove like a dream, I love it. It fits me perfect, just unbelievable. Jerry Bickel really outdone himself when he built it and let me tell you, that Pat Musi horsepower just feels so good," Haney said.

Turning his attention to the MWPMS World Finals, Haney said that although he's focused on closing out the official series schedule with a win, he and his Brandon Switzer-led crew also will be preparing for the following weekend (Oct. 18-20), when 22 invited Summit Mid-West Pro Mod Series competitors will race for an official "Wally" trophy in a special eighth-mile exhibition race within the NHRA national event at the Texas Motorplex, near Dallas.

"We're going to Tulsa with winning on our minds, that's the immediate goal. But I'm also really excited about helping some of our Mid-West Series guys dreams come true by racing at an NHRA event," said Haney, who worked all year behind the scenes with NHRA officials to broker the unprecedented opportunity.

"So we want to win in Tulsa, but we're also getting the car ready to win the first-ever Wally for an eighth mile race at an NHRA national event. That's the ultimate goal for us at this point of the year."

Before that, though, Haney said he's looking forward to racing in front of a hometown crowd.

"It's always a big deal when we race in Tulsa. It's exciting to be racing at home," he stated. "My kids get to be there, friends show up, my better half, Misty Hayes, she gets to be there with her kids and her family gets to come, it's cool that our families get to come in and share something we love so much with us.

"And the other part is, Misty is taking on a bigger role with Keith Haney Racing, backing me up and lining me up for the start, so it'll be cool to see her out there in front of her family and friends. It's an important role and nice to have her involved, keep her involved," Haney added.

Spectator gates for the Throwdown in T-Town open at 4 p.m. Friday, with round one of qualifying scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and round two starting three hours later. Two more rounds of qualifying, at 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, will precede the first round of MWPMS eliminations, set to start at 4 p.m.
